After dining at Banana Leaf, you’ll understand why the restaurant’s name is so; each entrée is served on a plate lined with a banana leaf--don’t worry, it’s been cleaned!
The Banana Leaf is known for its hygienic qualities and also because is healthful, flavored and aromatic.
The restaurant believes it is unmatched at meeting the wants of a diverse New York City crowd with traditional Indian food from a unique menu. The chef suggests the Chicken Tikka Masala, the Dosa and the Pepper Mutton Fry.

Awful delivery - took well over an hour

I actually really like the dosas here but had to wait 2+ hours for cold food (from the time I ordered). The email confirmation didnt come for over 20 minutes both times I ordered. I called multiple times and kept being told that the delivery guy was on his way, 5-10 minutes, and yet it was still 45 minutes and then 30 minutes after these assurances. My coworkers were waiting, some missed their window to eat and got stuck in meetings. Very poor service on the phone. I was very pleasant and apologetic for my calls, but they made me hold for 5 minutes at a time and one time hung up on my when i was on hold (at least they called back).

Horrible service. Forgot half my order, when called to let them know, the person on the phone told me that its my job to look through my bag before the delivery person leaves. Who does that. Plus the dosa was disgusting. Will never order from here again.

I really like this place! Their food is great, the service is good and they never deliver my food cold or late! Yes, they have done mistakes but they are human! Shit happens! Last time I ordered from them I asked for a coke. They were out of coke so they called and asked me if I would have a diet coke instead. I don't like diet sodas so I said no, thank you and told them they could take the $2.50 as extra tip. When the delivery guy showed up on my doorstep he told me that he was sorry for being a bit late (which he was not!) and said it was because he had stopped by a deli on the way and bought me a coke! That is what I call gooood costumer service!

Terrible Service. Took well beyond expect time for food to arrive.

These guys are terrible. I ordered dinner over 1.30 minutes ago and it has not yet arrived. I suspect the food would be very cold when it does. I did call and the guy was completely incompetent and did not apologize. Pathetic.

Sauce was perfectly spiced and breads delicious. The second time I ordered the chicken was very overcooked -- however my first order the meat was perfect. So I will order again and hope this second round was just a fluke!!

Takes much longer to deliver than what they say here on Seamless
Posted 2 years ago by Rahul P.
This restaurant is only located 3 blocks north and 2 blocks west from where i am located. The approximate 55 minute went over by about 20 minutes. When i called to inquire when the food would be delivered, i was told that my location was very far and no one wanted to deliver here for a $2 tip. The tip i placed on my order was actually $3.75 (20%), with the intention to give another $2 when the order arrived (and i still did despite the late delivery). The food had to be reheated as it was cold when it arrived... not just "slightly warm", but cold. Other than that whole experience, the food wasn't that bad.

It's been over 2 hours since I ordered my food and it's still not here. I called 30 minutes ago and the guy on the phone told me it would be here in 5 minutes. I called again just now and he said that it left 5 minutes ago. Which is it? I'm about to call Seamless and ask for a refund - I'm leaving the office to go home. This is absolutely ridiculous.

I don't remember how it was as Banana Leaf, but we ate dinner here on Easter Sunday and it was the best Indian food I've had in this neighborhood.

The food here is horrible. It not only tasted awful but it was cold to make matters worse.

Unreliable. Order was cancelled because restaurant closed early without notice.

The food actually is pretty good, but never have I been scolded by a delivery person. I consistently tip generously and I really wish I could have revoked the tip this time around. Even after signing the paper, he was free to leave, but no, the delivery guy continued to scold me for not being home, even though I have a doorman. The delivery window says 40-55 minutes and I agree with other raters in saying that it take MUCH longer than that usually. He has to be a pretty pathetic guy.

Tamba has been my go-to Indian take out restaurant for the last 3 years. I am a big spicy food person and love their Chicken Vindaloo. Also recently tried the Dal Tadka last week which was also delicious and had a nice kick to it. The samosas are a must - and ask for extra green sauce that comes with it. My only comment is that while I'm a big fan of garlic naan, I find $4.95 way too expensive for any piece of bread so I usually opt for the regular naan. Sometimes delivery takes a little on the long side - around 45 min or so - but definitely worth the wait!

Best Indian Buffet in the area. I work in midtown and I've tried all the Indian places - this is the most flavorful. I had a weekend craving and decided to deliver this delicacy.

Best Chicken Tikka Masala i've ever had. Seriously.

Dad to say, the quality of Banana Leaf has gone down, WAY down. Although the service is fast and the delivery people courteous, our last two orders were awful.
Butter chicken, once a creamy, silky yummy delight is now still serviceable tandoori chicken breast, but in a greasy, separated sauce that is more like a bad tikka masala. The keema samoas were reconstituted from packaged frozen rather than the fresh tasty appetizers they used to be. To add insult to injury, they were overfried almost to the point of burnt.
Sad, sad. I didn't write this review until we chalked one order up to a one off miss, but tonight's delivery confirms it.

The food is bad. For a Masala dosa, they forgot to give me the pototo curry filling. The dosa was sent in a tin foil wrap. The coconut chutney was stale. Sambar soup was alright.
Aloo Tikki was unlike any aloo tikki i ever ate. Boild pototo, with no flavor. Stay away from the disappointment.

Very poor service. Promised delivery is 45 to 55 min but after almost2 hours it was still not delivered and I decided to cancel the order. When I called the restaurant, I was assured that the food would be delivered in 10 mins. After 30 minutes, still not delivered and the restaurant stopped answering their phone. Very unprofessional.

Very slow delivery. Only one set of utensils / plates. Curry is more sauce than meat or vegetables.

Perfect for splitting an entree with garlic naan

Based on the reviews for this place, I had much higher expectations. Portions were terribly small, food arrived cold (and late), and prices were not reasonable. For $40, I would expect that most NYC restaurants could adequately feed two people with some leftovers, which was not the case. Much better values for Indian restaurants elsewhere. Will not order from here again.

1+ hour to deliver!

Small porions, felt like left-overs. Goat curry looked like just few meatless bones floating in the sauce. Really overpriced. Took over an hour to deliver.

The food was excellent, but it took them about an hour and a half to show up. I called after an hour and was told they'd be here in 5 minutes. Apparently their watches are a bit slower than mine....

chicken korma was definitely not up to par, and the naan was dried out. i would not order again.

Banana Leaf is excellent!!!! Very flavorful classic Indian food, but without the oil and rich butter that most restaurants gratuitiously add
